Personal Statement on Educational Philosophy

I believe with passion in the central role that the Liberal Arts can play in the education of future generations.

Based on Human values and in the study of society, the Liberal Arts create an awareness and foster the construction of links between individuals and their community. The Liberal Arts can thus help form individuals prepared to respond to the needs of their most immediate community in a responsible and educated way.

An education based on the principles of the Liberal Arts connects the individual and the global through a critical examination of tradition and the contrastive study of cultures and societies. It thus helps prepare today’s students to participate productively in an increasingly global community.

The principles of a Liberal Arts education help develop in the scientifically inclined student awareness of and respect for Nature’s balances and processes in their relation to humanity’s historical needs and values.

I believe, therefore, that the Liberal Arts will not only play a central role in the preparation of the intellectually rich work-force that will create the economy and the culture of tomorrow, but in the most profoundly moral and civil sense of the term, the Liberal Arts can help in forming true, committed citizens.
