Program description

 * Credits and Areas of Study

Credits and Areas of Study. The total number of credits for this program is 30 (9 at the University of Salamanca and 21 at CCSU).  At the University of Salamanca, students will take courses in the following areas: Spanish Grammar, Practice in Language Skills, Spanish Linguistics, Spanish Culture and Spanish Literature.  Courses taken at CCSU will cover Spanish Grammar, Hispanic Culture, Spanish and Spanish-American Literatures and Research in Modern Languages.

 

 * Courses

 Core (6 credits): 

            SPAN 560 The Structure of the Spanish Language   3 cr.

             ML 598     Research in Modern Language              3 cr.

Directed Electives (15 credits): 

Literature – Choose 12 credits from SPAN 515, 520, 525, 526, 530, 535, 545, 551, 553, 571, 572, 576 .

             Culture and Civilization– Choose 3 credits from Span 534, 588 or ML 550.

 Electives (6 – 9 credits):

 Selected in consultation with advisor

  Capstone (0 – 3 credits):

            SPAN 599 (Plan A) or Comprehensive Examination (Plan B)

Nine credits taken in Salamanca will be transferred as substitutes. 

Students following Plan A will identify a research theme and develop it under the guidance of a Director (a CCSU professor). In consultation with faculty advisor and Thesis Director, the student may be permitted to work with a faculty member from the University of Salamanca as second or third reader.
